Malnutrition - Hepatic Function and Liv.52 Therapy
نویسنده
چکیده
In spite of tremendous strides in modern medicine there has been no drug that stimulates the function of the liver, protects it from damage or helps in the regeneration of hepatic cells. Liv.52 is reported to be a powerful hepatic stimulant and choleretic which increases the functional capacity of the liver and accelerates cellular metabolic activity and promotes regeneration and shows marked lipotropic activity. It has been extensively reported to bring about marked improvement in appetite, gain in body weight and a feeling of well-being, stimulating normal haemopoieses and encouraging normal growth in children.

Hepatoprotective effect of Liv-52 and kumaryasava on carbon tetrachloride induced hepatic damage in rats.
Oral administration of Liv-52 and kumaryasava to carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) treated rats improved growth. Kumaryasava was more effective in reducing the liver weight increase due to hepatotoxicity of CCl4. Hepatic arginase, cathepsin-B, acid phosphatase, ribonuclease activity which were decreased on CCl4 treatment was stimulated by both Liv-52 and kumaryasava. Results indicate that Liv-52 and ...

Liv.52 syrup, an Ayurvedic liver-tonic and extract of Solanum nigrum (one of the constituents of Liv.52) were orally administered (0.125 ml/kg b wt./day which is equal to human dose) to weaning rats for 11 weeks. Liv.52 treated rats exhibited better growth during 3rd to 8th week than those administered extract of S. nigrum or controls, after which period the body weight in all the groups gradua...
متن کاملViral hepatitis in children.
One hundred and twenty cases of viral hepatitis were randomised into four equal groups, viz., A, B, C and D. Group A received Liv.52 alone; Group B received prednisone alone; Group C received a combination of Liv.52 and prednisone and Group D received only supportive therapy without either Liv.52 or steroids. Liver biopsies were performed before commencement of therapy and repeated during and a...
متن کاملChanges in Serum Transaminases due to Hepatotoxicity and the Role of an Indigenous Hepatotonic Liv.52
The beneficial role of Liv.52 against CCl4 induced hepatotoxicity has been studied histologically in albino rats and also by assessing the alterations in the serum transaminases (SGPT and SGOT). It has also been found that preand post-treatment with Liv.52 prevents any notable hepatic damage and the serum transaminase levels tend to reach the normal range. It has been found that CCl4 induced he...
متن کاملHepatoprotective effects of Liv-52 on ethanol induced liver damage in rats.
The mechanism of protective effects of Liv-52, a multiherbal hepatoprotective drug, on ethanol induced hepatic damage has been investigated. The results indicate that Liv-52 treatment prevents ethanol induced increase in the activity of the enzyme gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase. Concomitantly there was also a decrease in ethanol accentuated lipid peroxidation in liver following Liv-52 treatment....
